Our Inside Family

Long before the farm took shape, our mission lived within our home. Each of our domestic rescues came to us with unique challenges, finding a sanctuary here when few others would offer one. Our family includes Nemo, a resilient tripod who joined us after losing a leg in a traffic accident, and Chloe, whose chronic skin condition requires dedicated, lifelong medical management. Pixie, born with a physical limb deformity, navigates the world with grace despite her unique gait. Loki entered our lives after being found on the street, recovering from an injury sustained by a BB gun. Completing our resident family are siblings Hades and Persephonie, who serve as our loyal barn cats, along with our newest arrival, "Stray," who found his way to our porch and decided to stay forever.

About Mysthaven Farms

Mysthaven Farms is home to animals who need one.

We came to this from two directions. For Sarah, it was the animals — a lifelong passion and a dream since childhood of having a farm where they could be cared for. For me, Ernie, it was space to grow fruit and vegetables, supporting my wife (Sarah), and the simple satisfaction of a good day spent mowing.

Somewhere along the way, those two dreams turned out to be the same dream.

In 2025, we made it real. We gave up a beautiful historic home we had loved and poured ourselves into for over a decade, moved away from everything we were used to, and bought 34 acres. It came with longer commutes to work and school, and it took a significant investment to make it happen.

In the short time since, we’ve grown quickly. Today, 26 animals call Mysthaven home, and we expect that number to keep growing.

It came with longer commutes to work and school, and it took a significant investment to make it happen. In the short time since, we’ve grown quickly. Most of the animals here are farm animals. Some have been neglected or abused.

Some have illnesses, injuries, or physical differences that make them hard to place — the ones people tend to overlook. And some simply needed a soft landing: a horse whose girl grew up and stopped riding, a stray cat looking for a warm place to sleep.

Every animal comes here for its own reason, and every one of them gets the same thing — good food, good care, and room to just be animals. Today, 26 animals call Mysthaven home, and we expect that number to keep growing.
